“Lehigh Valley Corruption

My untitled blog posted of November 21, 2006, linked to The Morning Call Girl’s reporter-pimp Matt Assad, titled “Traffic planners to shine a light on Cemetery Curve,” contains these two paragraphs:

“The link [Assad’s] is especially relevant to the “Bushkill Village” project because it includes the property between the Delaware River and the former Simon Silk Mill at 13th St., developable property that lies between that section of of Bushkill Creek and the ‘Cemetery Curve’ described in the link [italics added].”

“The Easton Cemetery is on the Register of National Historic Plaes, as are Easton’s neighborhoods of downtown Easton and College Hill.”

The link itself acknowledges the cemetery’s historical significance when in reporting that a signer of our Declaration of Independence himself in buried in the cemetery.

Accordingly, the “Bushkill Village” development will have to be approved by the Easton Historical Commission before it can move forward - as will Arcadia Properties’ Riverwalk, which actually is an integral part of the “Bushkill Village” project and Lou Pektor’s Ashley Development project of luxury condominiums on the site of the Cinema Paradiso theater at 175 S. 3rd St., condemned already by the City of Easton which, jumping the gun as usual in its haste to approve all development project, has condemned for demolition.

As we all know, the Easton Historical Commission is illegal structured, in violation of both the National Historic Preservation Act of 1982 and Pennsylvania’s own Act 167 of 1961 authorizing its municipalities to enact local historic district ordinances that add zoning teeth to the less stringent NHPA.

The corrupt Easton Historical Commission gets away with these illegal developments because of its influence through its locally elected officials like its mayors Philip A. Mitman and predecessors Michael McFadden and Thomas F. Goldsmith - and also offcials like commission member and architect Williams Township Jeff Martinson, a former officer with Mitman of the Easton Historical Association.

It was Martinson who recommended that the proposed parking-deck of the public-private partnership of Acracia Properties, Lafayette College, The Lehigh and Northampton Transporation Authority (LANTA), Pennsylvania Governor Edward Rendell, U.S. Senators Arlen Specter and Rich Santorum, and Pennsylvania state senator Rob Wonderling and representative Bob Freeman be relocated from its originally proposed site next to the former Hotel Easton to the currently proposed, illegally subdivided parking lot behind the Governor George Wolf Building in the Delaware River and Bushkill Creek floodplain.
These corrupt officials and those of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, have used their political influence to corrupt the state’s Museum and Historical Commission in Harrisburg, including its former Executive Director Brent Glass, who was bribed by a higher paying, more prestigious and influential position, with the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.

BethWorks Now, Steelstax, the Las Vegas Sands Casino, Musikfest, ArtsQuest, and The Morning Call Girl and The Excess-Times have cynically used the Smithsonian Institute as a lobbying and marketing tools in Bethlehem’s competition with other municipalities and casinos for a Class 2 slot machine gambling casino.
