Ed “Fast Eddie” Rendell and the BAT

Please refer to this link, WFMZ-TV Online, “Brownfield Action Team to Assist Easton Project,” to be broadcast on WFMZ-TV tonight at 6:00 PM.

The Brownfield Action Team, or BAT, is a fraud.  It was ginned up by incumbent Democratic Governor Ed “Fast Eddie” Rendell and former Pennsylvania Republican Governor Tom Ridge to make an end-run (hear this, Lynne Swann?) around the federal Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), more commonly known as the Superfund Act.

BAT - and it is as capable of delivering death as the rabid winged mammals now being found across the Delaware River in New Jersey - was created to benefit the greedy petroleum industry by exempting it from contaminated-site cleanup costs and passing those costs on to the taxpayers - or by not cleaning up the site at all, or only cosmetically, or by “capping” the toxins beneath acreas and acres of big-box building foundations and paved, impervious-surface,  stormwater runoff-increasing parking lots.

Capping is the solution that BAT proposes for the former Bethlehem Steel Superfund Site in South Bethlehem.

Note in the linked photo Easton’s current incompetent and corrupt Mayor Philip A. Mitman and former Easton mayors Tom Goldsmith and Mike McFadden.

For helping him get elected, Democratic Governor Ed “Fast Eddie” plucked Goldsmith in a political rapture from his mayor’s seat and plunked him down on the three-member Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board - where, if the stories about Goldsmith’s imbibing and taste for chardonnay are true, constitutes a threat to LCB’s profits.

When it was pointed out to Rendell that Goldsmith was a member of South Side Easton’s racist and sexist Fleas Club, which featured illegal gambling, the Guv said that was okay.

Goldsmith’s hand-picked successor as mayor, business administrator Mike McFadden, with Easton’s zoning officer and director of planning and development Robert O’Neil and the Easton zoning hearing board, gave Northampton County the zoning application approvals and building permits needed to expand the County Government Center at the destruction of the ethnic (African-American, Hispanic, and Lebanese) Dutchtown-Gallows Hill neighborhood.

The fourth pol holding the fat $9 million check from Fast Eddie is 136th legislative district representative Robert Freeman, “Mr. Angelic, Chipmunk Cheeks” Freeman, whose being challenged by Hellertown Borough write-in candidate Ron Shegda, whose candidacy I support.
