Immigration Issue
PA Gov. Ed Rendell “Rips laws on illegals,” as reported in today’s edition of The Morning Call.
“The only ones I want to hear speaking up and complaining about immigration are the Native Americans who we screwed,” Rendell said to a gathering of youg professionals on Thursday.
Gov. Rendell has thus committed himself morally, and legally, to use his powers as Pennsylvania’s Chief Executive to help the Delaware Tribe of Native Americans prosecute its lawsuit against Northampton County, the Binney & Smith Crayola Crayon Corporation, Fuller and Company, Nic Zawarski and Sons, and a dozen private-citizen owners of the 315 acres located in Forks Township, Pennsylvania.
This is the land the Delawares and their political successors the Lenni Lenapes allege was taken from them by fraud in the infamous Walking Purchase of 1737.
The Delaware Native Americans are represented by the Cozy O’Connor of Philadelphia, where our country’s Constitution was framed.
Under existing federal law, Native Americans are entitled to own and operate casinos, even off-reservation, 15th Congressional District Representative Charlie Dent’s bill denying all of America’s indigenous people that right nothwithstanding.
